Strong Batting In Lions Win v Brompton Ralph

A strong batting display by the TD Lions U15 top order set up a 96 run league victory at home to Brompton Ralph on Sunday. The opposition arrived with only eight players, so thank you to all our players who fielded for them to make sure they had a full complement of fielders.

Both Taylor Flitton & Harry Love hit half centuries in an opening partnership of 106. U13 Alex Chaffey (40 not out) at number three also batted well as the Lions posted 181-1 off their 20 overs. Freddy Stevens (9) was the only wicket to fall as he attempted to ramp opening paceman Cowling 4-0-24-1. Henry Hudson (5 not out) was the other batsman.

The Baverstock brothers provided the opening attack for Taunton Deane. Will continued his fine start to the season with a tight spell of 3-0-11-0. It was Rupert 3-1-5-2 who claimed the first two wickets. He clean bowled both Poole(1) & Cowling (0) to put Brompton Ralph quickly on the back foot at 12-2. A 53 run stand between Simpson (12) & Winter (13) brought Brompton some stability. Off-spin bowler Rowan Keyte got the breakthrough when he had Simpson caught by Freddy Stevens in his first over. A good run out by Rupert Baverstock; well gathered by keeper Jacob Searle, accounted for Winter. Henry Hudson 2-0-11-1 then bowled Grischeff (0), leaving Rowan to claim the last two wickets. He first bowled Cook (4), then again in partnership with Freddy Stevens at short midwicket saw Scott (9) caught to claim figures of 3-0-11-3. Brompton finished their innings in the 15th over on 85-7.

A comfortable win, but once again we gave away far too many extras ... including 33 wides! In tougher matches this could prove fatal and we could easily find ourselves losing as a result. Definitely something we need to put right at training and something we must improve in our next game.

Man Of The Match : The opening partnership ; Taylor Flitton (50*) & Harry Love (50*).
