U15 Lions Win By 8 Wickets At Staplegrove

Our U15 Lions were back in league action this Sunday when they visited local rivals Staplegrove.

Staplegrove chose to bat first and proceeded to take full advantage of some loose Lions bowling. Openers Ed Smith (53 ret) and Toby Bishop (50 ret) batted beautifully to put on 112 for the first wicket. Toby was the first to retire in the 15th over. Former Deane player Nathan Dimond (0) was then bowled by Aman Rao (4-1-11-3). Smart work by Alex Chaffey at cover saw him run out Ollie Chubb (0) in the same over to reduce Staplegrove to 112-2. Ed Smith then went to his half century before Aman claimed his second and third wickets in his fourth over. Josh Thomas (1-0-3-1) bowled Burns (0) and Alex Chaffey had R Chapman lbw for just one run. The Stsplegrove innings closed on 119-6.

Oliver Wrelton (40) with some aggression, but struck the Ball cleanly through ‘the V’. His nine boundaries got the Lions off to a flyer, as he and Rowan Keyte (12) put on 62 runs in 46 balls. Rowan was then caught by the sliding Nathan Dimond at backward square leg. Oliver was then bowled by R Burns (2-0-9-2) off the very next ball. There was no respite for the Staplegrove bowlers as an explosive Josh Thomas (43 not out) and a steady Alex Chaffey (13 not out) took less than a further five overs to pass the Staplegrove total. Taunton Deane 121-2 won by 8 wickets.

Man Of The Match : Oliver Wrelton, Josh Thomas, Aman Rao.
