Captains Nell and Annabel won the toss and chose to bat, starting with a positive approach to the game. Quick running from Maggie Adams (3) who picked up on any opportunity to run on extras, any spilt ball or a slight fielding error supported Annabel lamb (30 retired) who played a glorious innings with a number of fine boundaries showing excellent timing and technique. Jasmine Kerr joined Annabel at the crease after Adams was caught and hit two boundaries off her first 2 balls. She continued with this tempo and when Natalie Carrillo joined her following Lambs retirement we had a big hitting batting display with both girls hitting big sixes over cover. Carrillo scoring her 30 off minimal balls including 2 6's and 4 4's and Kerr (29) just needing 1 to retire before being bowled. Megan Hughes (8) and Nell Woodgate Jones (11) went in with instructions to score quick runs as we had wickets in hand and added quickly to the total. Eva Allinson Smith (4 no) and Bethan Hambly (2 no) kept the momentum going for the last overs. The innings finishing on a total of 147. The girls went out to field with confidence with Jessie Smyth Less (3-0-9-3) and Charlotte Wade (2-0-9-0) opening the bowling and applying pressure from the start. After a fine batting display we didn't disappoint with the ball either with both Smyth Lees and Megan Hughes (3-1-6-2) getting 2 wickets in two balls providing two opportunities for hat-tricks. Hambly (2-0-5-1) on her first outing with the team claimed a wicket in her two overs and worked hard in the field taking a catch. Amy Squire continued from previous matches working well behind the stumps and kept the extras tight supported by Carrillo. Tornadoes restricted the Wyverns to 97 off their 20 overs.
The girls worked hard throughout the game and as always shared out opportunity within the game for all to contribute. The opposition and people watching praised the girls for their running between the wickets and their awareness of the game. It was clear to see the progress they have made over the winter. Well done all.
