Girls back in action

Friday night was a great opportunity for the Tornadoes and St Andrews to get back out playing cricket. Our first time playing at Blagdon and what great hosts they were, making sure we were ready and safe to play. A few lessons learnt (take the hand gel out to the middle with me to aid quick hand sanitising ). The girls felt confident , won the toss and opted to bat first. It took a while to get used to the wicket and we lost a few wickets quickly but we managed to post 122 in our 20 overs, valuable contributions from Annabel Lamb (13), Nell Woodgate Jones with a quick fire 22 and Megan Hughes who was retired on 32. We knew in the last few overs that we had wickets in hand and to the girls credit they tried to execute the plan and play risk free cricket but were a little off the pace on their running between the wickets, so we fell to a few run outs in the last few overs. I loved their intent and if playing on a junior wicket they would have made those runs. With a quick change round the girls went out to the field and took 3 wickets within their first three overs with a strong opening attack from Millie Lusk (2-0-5-2) and Maggie Adams (2-1-2-0) and some sharp fielding from Natalie Carrillo leading to an early run out. Great to see two of our new players in the team Charlotte Wade (2-0-8-1) and Immy Lee (2-0-10-2) taking their first wickets. Valuable contributions also form Brooke Whittaker (2-0-10-1) and Hughes (2-0-6-2). Amy Squire worked hard both behind the stumps, taking a great caught behind and then continued to field with maximum effort. Eva supported the bowling attack well with her two overs (2-0-9-0). Natalie and Amy shared the keeping duties, no byes or leg byes a great effort behind the stumps. It was great to get back and have an opportunity to play. Thanks to St Andrews for the fixture.
