U11 Tigers Win Their First Match

The newly formed TD U11 Tigers played their first match against Bridgwater Red Sox at Athens Castle School on a Wednesday night. The match was played in great spirit against another inexperienced. It was a really enjoyable and close game.

Bridgwater won the toss and decided to field first. This saw opening pair Jake Hawkins & Jack Collins stride to the crease. They played well against the Bridgwater seam attack, although both lost wickets. Nevertheless, they will have gained some valuable lessons to take into the next games.

Second pair Finley Robins & Aron Monsey also batted with purpose, with Finley hitting a super boundary through the covers. He was later bowled and Aron was unfortunate to be run out, but again they will be wiser next time they play.

Cole Norman & Aidan Burke were the third pair. They scored 24 runs in their 4 overs. Cole (16 not out) struck three 4s, whist Aidan (6) also hit a boundary.

The final pairing of Jack Hardy (18 not out) & Albie Blackwell (8) had the best partnership. They put together a fine 37 runs, although Albie was bowled in the last over to see TD Tigers finish on 256-7.

Bridgwater started steadily, but In the second over Freddie Staines made an impressive catch to dismiss James Harris (14) to give a jack Hardy (2-0-12-1) his wicket. Freddie then proceeded to run out Charlie Barden (5) with a direct hit. Freddie was again in the action for the third wicket as he held another skier to give Finley Robins (2-0-9-1) the wicket of Ross Van Aswegen (3). Cole Norman then ran out the same player and when Cole came onto bowl he made scoring difficult for the Bridgwater batsmen with a spell of 2-0-3-1. He bowled Charlie Harris (4) with his last ball. Aron Monsey (2-0-8-0), Freddie Staines (2-0-12-0), Jake Hawkins (2-0-10-2) & Aidan Burke (1-0-1-0) all bowled with good control and accuracy. Jack Collins did a good job as wicket keeper and when Jack Hardy took over the gloves he was able to bowl an over. Not bad either, Jack ... 1-0-3-0. It was Albie Blackwell (2-1-2-1) who claimed the final wicket of Robert Gruszcowski (10) when he bowled him in the last over. Bridgwater Red Sox finished on 230-6. TD Tigers Win by 26 runs!

A very pleasing first match with some good fielding, especially from Freddie Staines. Bowling was very consistent from all players & Finley captained the team well. The batting of Cole Norman & Jack Hardy helped boost our score, but it was the backing up & running between the wickets from Albie Blackwell & Jack Hardy that produced 37 runs in the last four overs that was most impressive. Something all our team could look to emulate. We must also give a big thanks to Mark Norman for umpiring.

Players-of-the-Match : Fielding : Freddie Staines 2 catches & run out). Bowling : Everyone.
Batting : Jack Hardy (18 runs & running between wickets).
All-Rounder : Cole Norman (run out, 16 runs, 1 wicket).
