Weather for ducks!

Our final match of the season was slightly impacted by the rain with the Match being abandoned only part way through the Wiveliscombe innings.

Despite the abandonment I think its good to record the play that was managed.

Emily was our captain today. She was sure she was going to lose the toss as we walked to the middle and she was right. The opposition chose to bat first so we readied our first wicket keeper and practiced our catching.

Wicket Keepers today were Faith and Issy. Both did really well and made some really good stops.

Thank you again to Gemma for stepping up at the last minute to fill the space of a late drop out – we look forward to welcoming you to training on Wednesday and being a permanent member of the squad next season.

It was raining a little as we set up but soon stopped and we were hopeful of getting a full game in.

In the 14 overs that were delivered we managed to take 4 wickets. Issy (2-0-1-13) took the first wicket of the game with her second ball bowling a nice straight line and sending the bails flying. The change of ends going from bowling downhill to uphill I think upset her rhythm for her second over.

Megan Clark (2-0-1-10) took our second wicket, she has a nice action and puts a lot of effort into her bowling. She made amends with her opening wide in the second over with a nice straight ball evading the bat and taking the bails off.

Emily Cameron (2-0-2-11) was our next wicket taker – her second over sent shockwaves through the opposition as she took 2 wickets in three balls – the first was an inside edge onto the wickets as the batsman misjudged the flight of the ball – the second was a straight bowled. An excellent over Emily, well done.

Of the overs that were managed Gemma and Faith were the tightest only going for 1 in their 1 over.

Lucy and Erin were were both a wide away from claiming a maiden over – both only going for 2 in their 1 over..

Emily Bird and Megan both only went for 4 in their 1 over.

Nerys opened the bowling and had 2 good overs with 8 dot balls amongst the 12 she delivered finishing with figures of 2-0-0-9.

Non-Cricketing Highlights of the day were walking with Emily Bird to the middle for the coin toss and her explaining to me that she had seen the Evil lifeguard from Wivey Pool.

Also Nerys telling me that she had heard the boys say they were going to beat us again and clearly being a little bit more determined in her attitude to prove them wrong. North Curry made a similar mistake in the first game of the season.

The rains came in early – we persevered for quite a while – the scorers reached the point where we could not write on our paper any more and we were headed for the covered stands to continue our work as the teams battled through the rain - but the sight of the off field people legging it for cover brought the game to a halt – we waited in the stand for while but the rain continued and the pitch soon reached the point where it would have been dangerous to continue.

Wivey had reached 234 at this point. I know some matches use the Duckworth Lewis method to work out a winner. I am going for the Frowde method and awarding the match to us on the basis that we took more wickets! So well done girls a crushing 4-0 victory.

We even managed to get a team photo in - once Nerys had finished her mouthful! I have uploaded the photos on pitchero but don't know how easy they are to download so if you would like a copy you can find them here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!As9qKh85kxAAhvkCVFIgo9kWIpLypw?e=p2scQl.

We have our last training session of the evening on Wednesday and it’s awards night. Get your votes in for player of the season. I have had 4 votes so far.

As this is the last report of the season – thank you to all the girls it’s been a pleasure working with you over the summer – you have all worked really hard in training and on match days – well apart from that really hot day when all most of you wanted to do was go and hide in the shade! And apologies for making you all just catch and field on that day – we thought you would be too hot in pads or running in to bowl! On reflection though apart from the bits when you were with Steven 1 on 1 the rest must have been a little tedious!

We have played 6* matches and won 3 (today included) and lost 3. I have seen examples of good batting, bowling and fielding from all of you.

Thank You
Matt
