Deane 2nds playing their first home game in 5 weeks and were hopeful of a result against fellow strugglers Shapwick and Polden.
Batting first the Deane had a poor start falling to 20 for 4 before slowly recovering with some runs but then disappointingly being bowled out for 166 with 6 overs still to go. Ben Thomas with 37 and Tom Burgess 29 were the leading run scorers.
In reply Shapwick had a very steady start against some good but sometimes wayward bowling. At the halfway mark they were 95 for no loss with the Deane desperate for a breakthrough. The breakthrough finally came with Tom Burgess bowling opener Jon Ball for 20. Despite much improved bowling the Deane struggled for another wicket until Burgess again got the other opener J Spearing for a well compiled 79 .
Then the wickets began to tumble with Charlie Norman picking up 2 wickets and Henry Mellor 1.
Unfortunately it was all too late and Shapwick got home with 5 wickets to spare.
If we were being honest it was the poorest performance of the season and hopefully we will get no worse.
