2's Grind Out the Season Opener!

The season opener saw the 2's host fellow promoted club Street in their return to WEPL cricket.
Russell Jones won the toss and Deane took to the field. The stand out performance with the ball came from debutante Tom Hall who removed 3 of the top 4 to finish with 3-45 from his 10 Overs. Other mentions go to the opening pair of Matt Derham (2-25) and Will Hardwick (1-19) who set the tone for the innings early on with tight opening spells. Trotman (54) was the stand out performer for Street who finished their 50 Overs on 189-8.

The Deane chase got off to a slow start at 20-2 before a 50 partnership between Sam Burgess (51) and Derham (21) steadying the ship before Derham fell with the score at 72-3. Deane kept themselves in the game despite the required run rate beginning to rise. Debutante Tom Hall (59*) once again stepped up to the plate playing a fine knock building to a crescendo finish with skipper R.Jones (26*). The pair putting on a partnership of 63 at better than a run a ball to guide Deane home with 2 balls to spare!

A low scoring but nonetheless thrilling game to kick off the season at The Convent Field.
Next Saturday see's the 2's travel to North Petherton for their first away fixture of the season, all support welcome.
