100% Cavaliers

The Cavaliers made it 6 out of 6 after they beat Purnells by 6 wickets in a game played in the hottest of weather. After losing the toss opening bowlers Steve Giles and Ryan Marsh produced testing opening spells for openers Hewish and Young. Marsh was unlucky not to see Hewish chop on early in his innings. With Hewish taking advantage on any width on a good pitch the Cavaliers found themselves on the back foot. Tom Burgess (10-1-35-1) claimed the breakthrough with the wicket of Young for 21 and despite the efforts of Josh Mynett who fielded superbly all day Purnells continued to score freely. John Eamer (12-1-55-1) then claimed the breakthrough with the wicket of Hewish for a well-made 86. Youngster Parfitt continued where his captain had left off moving to 46 before Barry Jones claimed another one handed catch of the bowling of veteran Stephenson (5-0-34-1).Giles came back to bowl very tightly in the end as the Cavaliers recovered on contain Purnells to 204. Thanks to Martin Axon for coming out of retirement to field impeccably bar a rusty throw, and to Jacob Arscott for donning the gloves while Marshy trundled in.

Openers Stephenson and Mynett started positively with such a high target to chase. Mynett unfurled range of cuts and drives and was unlucky to fall to a good catch on the boundary for 42. Skipper Axon joined Stephenson and in the midst of some irregular bowling did well to move the score on to 143 until Axon fell for 20 and Stephenson for 45. Tom Burgess scored a quick 14 until he despatched a wide one to extra cover. Ryan Marsh (20 not out) then booked in for a red inker and along with Barry Jones 10 (not out) proceeded to knock of the runs with any further alarms.
A good win and an enjoyable game against a young Purnells side which was played in a great spirit throughout.

Man of the Match – Josh Mynett for a brilliant fielding performance and a well struck 42.
