7 Up for the Cavs as Charlies men go marching on.

The Cavaliers kept up their unbeaten record with a hard working victory against Sparkford. After winning the toss the skipper Axon invited Sparkford to bat on a hard wicket with greenish tinges. Sam Holmes on his return to the team bowled a probing opening spell forcing the home team’s openers in to a number of play and misses. Ryan Marsh again eschewed the keeping pads and provided a moment of entertainment with a comedy throw in a run out attempt. Marsh though had the last laugh by bowling both openers. John House replaced the returning Max Phillips and provided the batsmen with a probing examination and some hostile bowling. He dismissed the dangerous Buxton when he cut to George Lee at gully for 12. Marsh and House then got one more wicket each as Phillips took a fine catch at square leg off Marsh and House was too quick for Woof leaving the home side struggling at 100 for 5. Worton and Dennett then took charge for Sparkford with a partnership of over 100. Despite a fine comeback spell form Sam Holmes who saw a number of edges go past the stumps and just wide of fielders, he was unlucky not to take a wicket but can be proud of going for just 34 runs of 10 overs. House came back to dismiss Worton for a well-made 60 after a fine diving catch from Marsh at mid-wicket. Dennett continued to flay the Cavaliers attack finishing on 50 not out as Sparkford made 226. House and Marsh both finishing with three wickets each. After bowling over 50 wide’s last year against Sparkford there was some improvement although 28 was still too many, despite some good catches being taken the fielding was below par with catches being dropped and a number misfields

Another new opening partnership saw Louis Corbin and George Lee stride to the wicket and despite some interesting running between the wickets both batsmen were soon into their stride. Corbin started as the most aggressive with a range of cuts and pulls against opener Priscott. Lee was more circumspect in his first knock of the year and after playing himself in attacked the leg spin of Dennett who was providing a testing spell. Both batsmen hit a number of sixes and despite being dropped twice on the boundary Lee continued to take the attack to Sparkford. After providing the third opening partnership of over 100 this year and getting to 150, Corbin was first to depart for 78. Lee then followed for 85 hitting 5 sixes. Skipper Axon was then joined by Marsh and despite some struggles for Axon the Sparkford score was finally passed in the 41st over for the loss of two wickets Axon finishing with 23 and Marsh unbeaten on 25.
