Taunton Deane Cavaliers started their home campaign with a local derby v Taunton A.
After losing the toss (again) the Cavs were asked to bat on a sun soaked Blagdon CC pitch. The innings started well with the evergreen Stevo and Shayann. The 2 openers took the attack to the bowlers with some very quick boundaries until Stevo got wrapped on the pads and the finger went up from Redwood (Stevo not happy with young Redders). Axon was next at the crease. He reached 5 before a lose shot came and he got caught at cover. Then last weeks MOM was in - Big Val Venus. The runs flowed with both Val and Shayann getting to their 50s but all of a sudden after hitting his 50 big Val went from 50 to 98 within 4 overs and went on to score 102. His 2nd hundred in two weeks!!! At this point TDCC were 196-3, so House was promoted up the order and it paid off with House getting 27 in quick time. Shayann got to his 100 in the 39th over but was bowled the very next ball.
Taunton Deane Cavaliers ended on 292-6
After a splendid tea, Taunton Deane sent out James (Jimmy) Annison who scared the two Taunton openers with his pace and control, and with Marsh opening up from the other end, they didn't let a lot go. Before we knew it Marsh and Annison both claimed the openers. Rana on debut was brought on to replace Annison and with good effect, claiming 2 wickets for 14 on debut. The pick of the bowlers was Steve Giles who ripped through the middle order, finishing on 7.4.3.7. Brilliant bowling by Giles. After this there were wickets for House and for Redwood to wrap up what was a very dominate display by Taunton Deane, bowling Taunton out for 94 giving Taunton Deane a 198 run win and max points to put them 2nd in the league and unbeaten in league cricket.
MOM goes to Val, Shayann and Steve Giles
Next week sees the Cavs travel to Westlands 2nds looking to continue the early season good form.
