On a fine bank holiday Monday, the Cavaliers found themselves playing at the Deane against Watchet 2nds.
After winning the toss (again getting used to this,) Mckee elected to bat and with the side he had out, and on the wicket they had, it was the right decision
The Cavillers welcomed back Louis Corbin who opened with T.Harlow. With the runs flowing Harlow was bowled for 12 . No matter as Corbin was playing well with some lovely shots aided by Charlie Axon. They pushed the score on until Corbin was out for 40 but this just brought the run machine Big Val Venus in. The run rate upped and the partnership was around 40 until Axon was gone for a fine 36. This gave Mckee the opportunity to move House up in the order to push for more quick runs, like he did on Saturday but this time it didn't work with House going for 1.
Toby Stone came and went for no score which brought Ryan Marsh to the wicket and in no time set to attacking the bowlers. Val made 70 until he was out which brought skipper McKee in for the last 5 overs that saw him and Marsh hit several large blows to end on 279-6 (over 200 each innings so far) Marsh 47 NO Mckee 17 NO.
It was a great bowling and fielding display with Matt Kingdom grabbing a wicket. Steve Giles grabbed 2 wickets off 8 overs and bowled with great control in the middle overs. There were wickets for T.Harlow but the day with the ball belonged to John House, with figures of 6-27 from 7 overs. His height and pace was always going to trouble the Watchet batsman who had no answer to House. He even picked up a wicket with his very first ball - an in swing yorker. This was just the start and he kept it going with him, taking the match ball home.
Watchet finished all out for 161.
Unbeaten start to the Cavaliers as they go top of the League
