The Crusaders welcomed Chard to the CSCG and returning captain John Ponte finally managed to win a toss and in traditional manner asked the opposition to bat. What followed was the best bowling and fielding performance of the season as Chard were bowled out for 112. Ponte finally finding form with 5-24 including a diving caught and bowled, a rarity indeed. He was backed up by the excellent Dorothy Batstone 2-16, Matt Kingdom 1-17 and George Loker, bowling his best spell of the season, 1-26. A very accomplished display behind the stumps by the again noisy, but with magnificent encouragement, Toby Stone shone in a superb fielding display by all 11.
Another magnificent tea by Len and Liz was enjoyed by all.
At 34-4 including a typical hard hitting knock from Hoddinott (18) another batting collapse seemed to be in danger of undoing the great earlier work. At this point Shayaan Akhtar (38 not out) and Matt Kingdom (28) in a stand of 58 took the Crusaders to the brink of victory which was then duly achieved a few overs later for a brilliant 4 wicket win and much needed win.
A most enjoyable game of cricket played in great spirit and humour by both teams.
