Match report as follows :-
The Crusaders 2nd game of the bank holiday weekend saw them travel over to Wellington on another gloriously sunny afternoon.
For the 2nd time this season skipper John Ponte won the toss (he’s getting the hang of this slowly !!!!) and invited Wellington to bat first. Jack Damon bowled beautifully with no luck his figures 0-19 off 8. Robin Liney made the first breakthrough and finished with 1-38 off his 8. A fine bowling performance saw Wellington finish under par on 157-8. Ben Redwood (031) was very unlucky to finish wicketless, Phil Batstone plugged away to finish with a hard earned 3-37 off 8 and skipper John Ponte bowling the death overs from one end a tidy 1-21 off 6. This bowling and fielding performance was of good quality and a lot credit goes to every player.
A fantastic tea followed………..
The Crusaders innings never got going after the first over dismissal of Bruce Crosland, wickets fell regularly. Jacob Arscott (17) gave a glimpse of his Saturday form, though the mainstay of the innings was Barry Jones with a classy 46…….though the tail did its best, Ben Redwood the best of them (12) the innings faded away to finish 125-9………with 8 of the 9 wickets clean bowled the Wellington bowlers proved to be very accurate.
The Crusaders now have 2 home games to coming up to build on both performances this weekend.
Man of the Match – Barry Jones
