Deane avenge cup semi final defeat

Deane Under 11 A's travelled to local rivals Taunton St Andrews hoping to revenge Monday night Cup Semi Final defeat.

St Andrews won the toss and elected to bat first.

Will Cooper striking twice in the first over putting St Andrews on the back foot straight away.

From this position St Andrews steadily compiled their runs. A great catch by George Jarrett off Josh Nelson helped to stem the comeback.
A smart bit of thinking by keeper Jacob Searle seeing the batsman out of his crease and stumping him got Theo Harlow a wicket.

The introduction of Oliver Searle immediately brought a wicket with Oliver taking a very smart caught and bowled chance. Oliver then picked up another 2 wickets ( both bowled ) in his next over.
Finally in the last over of the innings Ben Squire picked up another vital 2 wickets both bowled as well.
St Andrews finished on a challenging 261.

The reply was started by Josh and George who despite losing 2 wickets compiled 20 runs thanks to 4 fours to Josh who scored 22 runs.
The next pair Will and Elliot batted with care and lost just the one wicket taking the team score up to 231. Half way there with half the innings left, this was not going to be easy!
Enter the Searle brothers who despite an early wicket put on 29 runs to take the score to 260 just 2 runs from victory. Jacob with some impressive hitting ( 4 x fours) scoring 23 runs.

This left the final pairing of Ben and Theo just needing to score 2 runs in their 4 overs but remembering if you lose a wicket you lose 6 runs. Their instructions to play sensibly take the single, don't get out and try to get at least a 10 run lead in case they lost a wicket.
They built a lead but then Theo was bowled which put us back to 2 runs required, nervous times.
Then captain Ben with Theo took control and saw the team home with Ben scoring a couple of fours at just the right time.

A vital victory against strong opposition that keeps the league challenge going.
Next week we have undefeated Fitzhead to play in another crunch game.

Well played all but things we need to improve on for the Fitzhead game.
