Taunton Deane are delighted to announce the signing of Jamie Baird ahead of the 2021 season.

"I have joined the Deane as the opportunity to challenge myself at Prem 1."

The young wicket keeper batsman has joined from North Perrott CC where he was an integral part of the North Perrott team that have been successful in the National Village Cup over recent years.

With a league high score of 102* against Midsomer Norton in Prem 2 in 2019, Jamie also helped North Perrott CC reach the semi-final of National Village Cup last year before they were knocked out by runners up Redbourn CC.

Jamie is a member of the Somerset Academy having progressed through the Somerset age group squads since the age of 14. Before joining the academy, Jamie had been part of the emerging player programme and went on to represent the West of England at the prestigious Bunbury Festival.

Looking ahead to the new season Jamie said: “I have joined the Deane as the opportunity to challenge myself at Prem 1 level is one which I am excited and grateful for. I also know a number of players at the club and they have all spoken about it’s great support for young players and the family atmosphere whilst still competing hard on the field!”.

With good player recruitment over the winter and strong competition in the batting line-up, Jamie said he sees himself “as a right-handed batsman and like to go in at three or four. I used to be an opener but over the last couple of years I’ve dropped down a little bit. I’m happy going in anywhere in the top four or five. In T20 cricket I’m happy to go in anywhere down to number seven.”

Having made his SCCC Second XI debut during the summer of 2018 and since represented Devon in the Unicorns Championship with a high score of 52, Jamie says: “My ambition since being involved with the Somerset CCC academy had been to earn a professional contract. Working hard at my game and performing for Deane will hopefully help!"

Welcome to the club Jamie and best of luck for the season ahead!
