Gloucester City Winget have the opportunity to host a World XI game comprising 9 South African first class players and 2 Sri Lankans.
Given the standard of the opponents, WEPL have been approached to to raise a WEPL select XI. The game will be held on Sunday 14th August at GCW.
The game will be 40 over match commencing at 1pm and it is hoped that some of the best players in WEPL would like to test themselves against an extremely strong side.
GCW are trying to get cricket back into their community and encourage as many youngsters to start playing again as possible. The Club are currently doing Chance to Shine and looking to get into Secondary schools and an event like this would certainly encourage more youngsters to get involved.
They are looking to make this a showpiece event with corporate hospitality, coloured clothing, pink ball etc, BBQ, entertainment etc etc. and are looking to run the event for charity. Media is involved so the exposure for the Club and WEPL would be significant.
Level 1 and 2 WEPL teams are invited to nominate 2 players who are interested in taking part from which a side will be selected.
The arrangements are being organised by Richard Howell of GCW. I trust WEPL clubs will try to support this initiative in raising the profile of cricket in Gloucester and raising funds for charity.
If you have players interested please send nominations to Richard on
