A great opportunity to play against a boys team in an U15 age group. A match designed as a development game for both teams to give them an extra game opportunity. The match was played in good spirit throughout. It was an unusually nervous performance from the girls. The first time playing in their actual age group (as girls can play 2 years down) with 3 U13's in the team. The boys batted first and the Tornadoes struck early with the wicket of Theo Harlow. Emily Davies earning her first Deane wicket (2-0-6-1). The girls bowling was put to the test with Newby (23), Lusk (20), Jarret (12)and Quirk (34 retired) seizing the opportunity to dispatch anything loose. Maggie Adams (3-0-7-2) kept her bowling tight taking 2 important wickets, supported by Nell Woodgate Jones (3-0-15-1) and Megan Hughes (2-0-9-1) taking a wicket each. I was pleased with the efforts in the field. Natalie Carrillo and Amy Squire once again keeping extras to a minimum. Jasmine Kerr, Jessie Smyth Lees and Ella Woods all contributing in the field, working hard to chase the ball. The girls struggled to gain momentum with their batting, and it was evident from their body language that they didn't believe in their abilities, something that they will need to work on to play within their age group as they are good enough to compete. Brooke Whittaker (22) topped the batting for the girls running hard between the wickets and taking advantage of the bad ball. Millie Lusk (8) and Nell (10) contributed with all important runs. The boys helped us out with the number of extras they gave us, giving the Tornadoes a respectable final score of 90. Hopefully we may be able to play again at the end of the short window of playing opportunity to see if we can level the result.
