Tornadoes at the lovely batting surface of Bridgewater CC yesterday on a lovely sunny afternoon. We were struggling for numbers because of school breaks and the Semi's of the Blast comp at the County ground. Thanks to 3 players from the Greens team, we managed to play our fixture against Bridgie. We had a late drop out, and had to call on our ever reliable 12th man in Graham to stand in.
We won the toss and Katie decided to put Bridgie in to bat. Megan D and our new signing, Mila Brooke opened the bowling and was met with a very attacking batting pair who hit 40 runs off the first 4 overs. This confirmed that we had a very nice batting strip which was going to produce a high run rate to chase. First change in bowling was Jess Slade and her and Mila's bowling gave us 4 wickets falling in the next 4 overs, Pippa Stevens took over from Mila and immediately troubled the batsmen and she managed to pick up a wicket in her 2 overs bowled. Katie Rowe took over from Jess and bowed a solid 2 overs with Megan Clarke replacing Pippa on the pavillion end, and bowling pearlers and managed to take 2 wickets in her 2 overs, Graham took over from Katie and bowled a few very nice balls. Jasmine Rao came storming in for her first ball of her over knowing we need only 1 wicket to bowl the team out with 1 retirement in the 17th over. No probs, she sent those stumps flying all over the place. After 10 overs Bridgie was 90 odd for 4. In the next 7.1 overs we bowled them out for 30 odd. This is very impressive on that track.
Mila Brooke - 2 wickets off 4 overs for 40 runs
Jess Slade - 3 wickets off 4 overs for 16 runs
Megan Clarke - 2 wickets off 2 overs for 4 runs
Jasmine Rao - 1 wicket off 1 ball for 0 runs
We needed 128 to win and Katie and Jasmine walked in with a plan. We got off to a great start with Jas supporting Katie really well. An unlucky run out saw Jas walking back for 10 quick runs and our score 32/1. Megan D came in and the runs were flowing really nice until Meg played her signature shot to cow corner, and the catch was taken. Our score was 61 for 2 in the 6th over so still going really strong towards the target. Mila came in and run rate stagnated a little after Katie retired on 31 not out off only 18 balls. We were falling behind a little while losing wickets, untill Jess Slade came in and started hitting it nicely and Pippa Stephens also had some intent and it showed as when Jess got out we were 90 for 5. Grace Findlay fell on 103 for 6 and Pippa fel at 125-7 in the last over. We had our Greens players Rosie Judge and Amelie Parvin who needed to score 2 runs off the last ball. No problem - Amelie hit a lovely late cut 4 to win us the match.
By far the best game of the season this far and great result for our Tornadoes girls. Thank you to all of you you who made themselves available in spite of having tickets for the Blast. Really appreciate it.
