After the disastrous first game of the day the Deane had it all to do against the days host who in the first game of the day easily accounted for Old Bristolian Westbury. This meant the Deane had to win and win well as it would all get decided on run rate.
Winning the toss Deane skipper Phil Saxby chose to bat first in an attempt to get some big runs on the board and put Keynsham under pressure in a run chase.
This time the Deane started really well with openers Russell Jones and Sam Shaikh putting on 36 in just 5 overs before Russell Jones was dismissed. This brought to the crease John Rogers who after his first innings duck was determined to make amends.
With Sam Shaikh soon departing in become the John Rogers show.
With an awesome display of hitting John Rogers powered his way to a sensational 120 not out in 55 balls including 9 sixes and 5 fours. He lost 6 balls hitting them out the ground into surrounding gardens and onto a few houses. The Deane innings end on 188.
After careful calculations during the break Keynsham required 124 in their innings to go through to the next round on run rate.
Again an improved performance from the Deane with the ball applied the pressure to the Keynsham batsman with a wicket falling every time they thought they were getting on top. With the game finely poised up stepped J Hare (64 not out) with a very composed batting performance to see them past the 124 target to qualify. The Keynsham innings closed on 157.
In a strange feeling the Deane won the game but came off the losers.
Congratulations to Keynsham for progresses while the Deane were left to rue an awful first game.
Special mention for that innings, well played John Rogers
