Tenessee Harlow guided Taunton Deane to an opening day win at Ilminster with Rob Pryke also raising his glass to see Deane over the line.

Taunton Deane got their league campaign off to a winning start away at Ilminster which saw Robert Woodman's men take the spoils after a hard-fought one wicket win.
Having inserted the home team, Rob Pryke and Jason Squire restricted the Ilminster scoring during the powerplay and kept the dangerous Louis Kraucamp quiet. Pryke made the first breakthrough as he had Jon Warry caught by captain Woodman at slip on the fifth attempt.
Charlie Vickery added runs with Kraucamp, before Rana enticed Kraucamp into a slog sweep which fell into the hands of Sam Loud on the deep mid wicket boundary. Runs continued to be hard to come by and a few lusty blows from Spurway were required to keep the scoreboard ticking.
However, when Spurway (32) departed caught behind off the bowling of Woodman, spinners Rana and Woodman were miserly in the middle period, conceding just 70 runs in the 20 overs bowled between them.
Charlie Sharland claimed his first senior Deane wicket on debut as Vickery (24) pushed a sharp catch into the hands of Tenny Harlow at short cover, before a further Woodman wicket and run out saw Ilminster fall to 150-6. It was left to some late lower order running and further boundaries pushed Ilminster to 181-6 from their 50 overs.

The Deane reply started well as Woodman was his pugnacious self and Loud more watchful at the other end. When Loud (1) fell LBW to Harry Montague, Tennessee Harlow took up the mantle to assist Woodman in guiding the Deane run chase.
Both players look assured as the second wicket brought up the Deane 50 in the 13th over. However, dangerman Woodman (39) fell soon after for caught behind off Thompson and then the Deane slipped to 75-4, then 90-5 as Harry Thomas (1) and Charlie Sharland (10) departed quickly in the next 4 overs.
A partnership of 41 between Harlow and Harry Smith edged the Deane closer and Harlow reached a well deserved half century from 88 balls. Not long after Smith chipped a simple catch to mid-off for 19 before Harlow was excellently stumped by keeper Josh Lee, the batsmen lifting his foot for a micro second in which time the bails had been duly removed.
The relatively experienced pair of Grant Davey (9) and Sam Shaikh (4) could only muster a further 15 runs between them as Shaikh fell LBW and then Davey lofted a mistimed drive to mid-off.
30 runs were still required as number 9 Rob Pryke marched to the wicket and still another 19 as number 10 Rana entered the fray.
However, both stood firm against the returning opening attack of Monatgue and Ashby, singles were taken and singles were not taken as the target of 182 came into sight.
5 wides reduced the equation to 8 to win before Rana was cleaned bowled by Ashby for 5 of the most valuable runs as he looked to pierce the vacant cover region.
Veteran Jason Squire joined Pryke and a single first ball allowed Pryke to find a boundary the very next ball. 3 to win at the start of the next over with new man Squire on strike against Montague coming down the hill and suddenly the memories of the one run defeat in the same fixture last year came vividly to the fore.
Another calm single brought Pryke on strike, 2 to win, catchers in close, Montague charging in...then boom, Pryke nonchalantly smears a full ball through the cover region for four!
The onlooking Deane players were sent into raptures as the Tony Rice bar faded into a stunned silence. The Deane had one by one wicket and avenged the one run defeat from last year.

A win too close for comfort at the start of the campaign but a win nonetheless. Thanks to our supporters who ventured down the A303 on a most chilly afternoon. The Deane will be returning to more familiar surroundings and hopefully warmer climbs as they look to overcome Keynsham on more comfortable terms next week as they turn out at The Convent Field for the first time this season.

The Deane are also in coloured kit action on Sunday as they welcome Chard and Yeovil CC in WEPL Round 1 of the ECB National T20 Competition.
The first game gets underway at 10.30am and sees The Deane play Chard, before Yeovil and Chard battle in out from 1.30pm before the day draws to a close with The Deane and Yeovil going head to head at 4.30pm.
There will be live music and the bar will be open all day to provide liquid refreshment and Keystone Pizzeria will be in attendance providing a menu of freshly baked pizzas for guests and supporters to enjoy.
Entry is free and free car parking is available on Mount Street and outside the ground.
