Taunton St Andrews won the toss and decided to get first use on a typical Wvyern wicket. The Saints started steadily with an opening stand of 42 before Martin Jenkins fell for 23. The introduction of youngsters Josh Thomas and Aman Rao restricted the scoring and when Kevin Parsons went early for 9 off the bowling of Luke Williams, the Saints looked in trouble.
However, clean hitting from Gareth Parsons (27) and Graydon gaining confidence at the crease, Saints gradually moved through the gears. Further acceleration from Saints skipper Josh Clatworthy (34) enabled the Saints to finish on an over par score of 222 from their 40 overs. Rao was the pick of the Deane bowlers taking 2 for 27, Graydon finishing undefeated on 71.
In reply, despite losing Morgan Hill-Lamey early for 9, Deane made a positive start scoring at a run a ball. Luke Williams and Sam Loud took the score past fifty before Loud departed for 21 caught on the leg side boundary. Consolidation came from Ben Chaffey and Williams before Chaffey fell for a watchful 20.
Evergreen captain Ali Warren increased the momentum with some clean striking, before Williams fell for a composed 55 to the bowling of Clatworthy. With Deane still requiring 27, Warren was caught and bowled by his opposite number Clatworthy for timely 31. With things getting tight, Sam Burgess, joined Henry Mellor at the crease and finished the chase swiftly with three 6’s and an over to spare. The winning runs coming from Mellor who finished with a stout 21 not out.
