The 2nd XI travelled to Ashbrittle for the first league game of the season. Skipper Sam Burgess won the toss and elected to Bat first.
Phil Saxby(78) opened the innings and when Ben Thomas(8) fell early on during a good spell from Ashbrittle bowler Ben Franks (1-27) Saxby was joined at the crease by Sam Burgess(65). The pair shared a partnership of 99 as Burgess reached his 50 quickly before falling with the score on 110. Chris Mckee(45) joined Saxby at the crease and continued to steer the innings towards a competitive total. Some hard hitting at the end of the innings by Jacob Arscott(20) saw the visitors reach 233-5 from their 45 overs.
After tea the hosts began their chase and got off to a good start despite losing Andy Hill early to Deane debutante Ben Osbourne(1-35) who showed real promise in a good 9 over spell. Meher(19) and Rob Hill(33) continued to keep the host on track before a tight spell of bowling from Rana(3-34) and Jason Squire(9-3-17-2) removed them both. M Summerfield(67*) and Jack Bradbury(31) kept the hosts hopes alive before Bradbury fell to Rana. Wickets came more regularly then for the Deane as Charlie Norman(2-24) and another debutante Jesse Mooney(1-35) closed out the innings before the final wicket fell to a run out leaving the host 38 runs short of their target with 15 balls left in the innings.
Overall a strong opening performance from the young Deane side which saw them pick up maximum points. Thoughts now turn to the Baker Cup on Monday night at home to Trull before welcoming league newcomers Butleigh to the Convent field next weekend.
