In an Inter Club 40 over friendly match Kings XI Ponte took on the Cavalier Knight Riders.
Chas Axon Captain of the Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first.
The early breakthrough came when Jason Squire bowled Dave Stephenson for 8. After that the innings belonged to the Knight riders batsmen despite some decent spells from some of the Kings XI bowlers. Performances of note being retired out at 50 knocks for Chas Axon, Ryan Marsh and Ben Coomber as the Knight Riders amassed 254 for the loss of 6 wickets. Jason Squire 8-1-14-2 and Henry Mellor 3-0-13-2 being the most successful bowlers. Mentions also go to Matt Kingdom and George Loker who bowled tidy spells.
With a large runchase on the cards it was an all Mellor affair with Ed bowling to the Henry and Will the Kings XI openers. Will Mellor who survived his sons bowling was first to fall bowled by the evergreen Steve Giles for 4 with the score on 42. Henry Mellor then retired on 50. Richard Hoddinot batted well for 33 before succumbing to the bowling of Ben Thomas. With the KIngs XI steadily losing wickets against some very good bowling Squire and Sam Burgess took up the run chase at 12 an over before Squire was well caught by Toren Keyte for 17. Burgess then retired on 50 before returning with Mellor in attempt to pull off an unlikely run chase. It proved too hard a chase as an excellent Matt Derham 7.5-0-38-3 bowling Mellor to secure victory. Ben Thomas also picked up 3 wickets 6-0-38-3.
A very enjoyable club to be repeated next season.
