Crusaders vs Crewkerne

The Crusaders returned to the CSCG after a couple of away games with a match against Crewkerne. Skipper John Ponte continue with his feeble ability to win a toss and the Crusaders were asked to bat first. Bruce Crosland (8) and Jacob Arscott (39) put together an excellent 50 run opening partnership on a sporting Castle wicket, runs were then accumulated positively against an accurate Crewkerne attack with James Mumby scoring 26 continuing to show great promise and Barry Jones (46) continuing his excellent form. At the conclusion of the Crusaders 40 overs a total of 165-5 was posted which was felt to be a really competitive score.

In the absence of Liz and Len, at teatime both teams settled down to enjoy a sumptuous banquet provided by Becky Arscott which was very much enjoyed and appreciated by both teams.

The Crusaders took the field searching for a first home win……After a sloppy first 4 overs the team knuckled down and took control of the game, despite a fine 50 from Crewkerne’s opener, thanks to some magnificent bowling from Damon, Liney, Ponte and Batstone who all backed up the star of the bowling performance Ben Redwood who finished with 4-16 off his 8 overs.

As Crewkerne closed there innings on 139-7 off their 40 overs the Crusaders could celebrate a hard earned and well deserved first home win of the season.
