A re-arranged league match saw TD U13 Dynamos up against Wellington at Blagdon Hill CC. Oliver Bright made his debut.
Wellington batted first. James Salt immediately struck in the first over thanks to a smart catch by Thando Mlotshwa at mid-on. James was again in the action to run out the next batsman (with the help of wicketkeeper Harry Ellison) to reduce Wellington to 7-2. A good partnership then saw Wellington move their score to 33 ... partly due to a number of wides ... before Thando claimed two wickets in his second over. He clean bowled both Will Lyon-Taylor (4) & Brock Vallance (0). Wellington were now reeling at 35-4. Ben Briddon (7no) now joined Oscar Milton (27no) And they built an unbroken partnership of 61 to see their team to 96-4 at the end of their 20 overs.
James Salt (32ret) continued his good match with some impressive shots; striking 5 boundaries in his innings before he had to retire. Alex Fish (21) was also looking more confident before he ran himself out. He hit 4 boundaries. Freddie Jarrett (10no) batted very sensibly and this was exactly what was needed as wickets began to tumble at the other end. First Dara Farmer (0) was bowled, then Thando Mlotshwa (1) and with the score at 82 Harry Ellison (4) was out lbw. We still needed 15 runs to reach our target of 97 runs. Finlay Robbins (3no) showed good concentration to steady the ship and keep out the dangerous Ollie Hynd (1-11) and spinner Oscar Milton (2-4). It was Freddie whose patience paid off as he drove straight down the ground for the winning boundary. TD Dynamos Win by 6 wickets.
A good win ... with a much improved batting performance. Thando bowled well at times and deservedly picked up two wickets, but like the other bowlers gave away too many runs in wides and no balls. The strength of the two previous games was our bowling, but in this game As we conceded 50 runs in extras! Definitely something to work on before Friday's game against high-flying Bagborough.
Player Of The Match : James Salt .... good batting performance, run out, one wicket.
